Record Number of African Delegations

Africa is reuniting around identity once again and this time it is a significantly bigger gathering. More than 30 African nations have already registered their delegations and more than 10 International Development Agencies are sending significant numbers of participants to the ID4Africa Event.

Spotlight on Session 2

This year the ID4Africa Annual Meeting offers an impressive array of speakers (Please see full programme here). This week our newsletter focused on Session 2, which is devoted to the viewpoint of the International Development Agencies, who have become, over the past five years, very important stakeholders in the identity ecosystem in Africa.
Some highlights include:

  • An overview of the past, present, and future of the World Bank's ID4D Initiative
  • Agence française de développement (AfD) and identity as a cornerstone for development and their roadmap for supporting it
  • The right to nationality and effects for inclusive ID Systems from the African Union Commission
  • African Development Bank's vision for strong Identification Management Systems

These presentations will be followed by a discussion focused on Driving Development by Delivering Legal Identity along with opportunities for participants to ask questions in a moderated format.

Exciting Update on Session One

In addition to the national speakers during Session One (highlighted in last week's newsletter), this week we are pleased to announce that ECOWAS will be joining us during that Session to discuss their interoperable biometric ID Standard and Card, both being launched throughout ECOWAS Member States in West Africa. These seek to achieve regional identity harmonization and integration, a milestone in the history of identity in Africa.

ID4Africa Annual Meeting: 3 Day Program At A Glance

This year the theme for our Annual Event is "Developing Successful eID Schemes: The Practical Guide" and our sessions and workshops reflect topics intricately related to this theme. Our program examines Africa-specific issues with the objective of providing a platform for governments of African states to explore how national electronic identity can further economic and social development in Africa.
